Kids' Summer Camps
In addition to offering excellent classroom and online classes, MISD Community is proud to be able to offer the following kids' summer camps. Our camps have specially structured to offer the maximum amount of fun and excitement balanced with great opportunities for learning. MISD Community Education carefully selects instructors and camp counselors as well as camp programs to ensure our standard of quality is met with a variety of activities for various age groups and interests.
Registration is limited for the majority of these camps. If necessary, payment arrangements can be made by phoning 972-882-5277. You can register your child(ren) for the desired camps and pay for camps at a later date. ALL CAMPS MUST BE PAID IN FULL ONE WEEK BEFORE CAMP SCHEDULED START DATE. If camp fee is not paid in full before camp begins, your child will be removed from the roster.

Camp Kids
Camp Kids is a fun and exciting two-week day camp featuring lots opportunities for having a blast as well as learning new things! This is our 10th year for this remarkable day camp. You can choose to attend only one week or you can choose to attend both weeks. Included in the cost of the camp are all admission and supply fees for various field trips, selected lunches (please see schedule for specific dates), and a Camp Kids t-shirt. In order to participate, campers must have completed grades 1-6 in the current school year (2007-2008). All activities are supervised by district-approved camp counselors and chaperones, and MISD school buses will utilized for all field trips. Please note that planned activities can be changed and/or eliminated without notice.
Camp Kids participants will meet in the cafeteria at Wilkinson Middle School, [2100 Crest Park, Mesquite, Texas 75149] 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Week 1 is Monday through Thursday, June 16-19. Week 2 runs from June 23 through June 26. Registration will be limited to the first 40 campers registered for each week. Enroll early!
Field trips scheduled for Week 1 include swimming at the Mesquite Aquatic Center or Town East Pool; a visit to Mary of Puddin' Hill Bakery; roller skating at Dad's Broadway Skateland; a trip to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Ft. Worth to see how money is printed; and an 'amazing' trip through a maze made of cowpen gates (To see this, visit http://www.cowtowncattlepenmaze.com.).
Field trips scheduled for Week 2 include a trip to Sandy Lake Park; a 'bouncing' good time at Pump It Up; the AMC 30 Theater to watch 'Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium' [G-rated movie]; and a visit from Drama Kids International and the Dallas Zoo.
Other fun activities might include a talent show, 'Dancing With the Stars,' arts and crafts, games, hikes, and making Coke floats. Click on the link below to get specific information and to register.



Adventures in Art Camp
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a budding Picasso or DaVinci! Give your emerging artist license to be totally creative. This 4-day art camp is not the same as other art camps! Your artist will complete eight different works of art you will be proud to hang and display. Students will work with five different mediums - painting with watercolors, oils and acrylics, drawing with charcoal and pencil, and NEW for this summer, drawing with oil pastels. No other art camp offers this option. While creating their masterpieces, campers will learn timesaving techniques, color mixing, composition and perspective. Individualized instruction also emphasizes basic fundamentals of creative art in a fun and easy approach which yields amazing results. This camp is open to participants ages 6 - 13.
Choose from three great sessions! Although the techniques taught will be the same for every session, the projects will be completely different with no duplications. This camp will be taught by award-winning and renowned 'Teachers of the Year,' Robert and Susan Garden. They specialize in teaching fine art skills and creative thinking to students of all ages, rather than teaching the same old mindless arts and crafts. Discovering the Actor in You!
Do you have a budding Tom Hanks or Meryl Streep? Is your child constantly pretending to be someone else? We have the perfect summer camp for you! Register your child(ren) for this exciting 4-day drama camp filled with nonstop fun. An experienced instructor will work with budding thespians to rehearse and present a popular play. Along the way, campers will journey through their imaginations by way of exercises designed to enhance creative expression and self-discovery. The campers' play will be performed on the final day of camp during the last hour of camp. Encourage family and friends to attend this performance. This camp is open to participants ages 8 - 12.
This camp will meet at Poteet High School [3300 Poteet Drive, Mesquite, Texas 75150]. This camp will utilize the Little Theater.
This camp will be taught by an experienced instructor from Dallas Children's Theater of Dallas, Texas. It has been rated by Time magazine as one of the top five theaters performing for kids in the United States. Dallas Children's Theater is a professional theater which offers live plays eleven times a year as well as outreach programs. Through these programs as well as its national touring company and educational programs, DTC serves more than 250,000 young people every year. Volleyball/Basketball for Beginners
Do you have kids entering middle school in the next school year? Do they plan on trying out for the volleyball or basketball teams? These sports camps are just the ticket for getting the inside track for tryouts. In both of these camps, budding athletes will learn basic skills which will be reinforced through fun games and simple scrimmages and drills. Campers will also improve their conditioning and coordination. Skills covered in the volleyball will include serving, sending the ball back over the net, bumping(passing), rotating and the rules for volleyball. The basketball camp will teach fundamentals including dribbling, rebounding, passing and improving your free throws. Get pointers to help improve your chances for trying out for school teams.
Both camps will work out at Wilkinson Middle School [2100 Crest Park, Mesquite, Texas 75149] in the gym. This camp is open to participants in grades 5 - 8.
If registering for both Volleyball and Basketball, please bring a disposable sack lunch with a drink. Those camp participants taking part in both camps will have approximately 1 hour of supervised lunch/break time between camps. Students will NOT be allowed to leave campus unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
This camp will be coached by Kara Quinn. Coach Quinn has coached at the middle school level for over five years, and she also coaches a select volleyball team. She has conducted sports camps before and she also coaches in the Garland Volleyball Association and Rockwall. Click on the link below to get specific information and to register.





Lego Logo/Lego Mania
Lego Logo, designed for kids ages 8-12, offers great opportunities for fun and learning. Participants will use kits designed especially for this camp and they are not found in any store. The kits feature detailed contruction plans, motors, lights, touch-sensors, drive chains, special Lego components and much more. While working with these kits, participants will reinforce skills learned during the regular school year, include following directions, creative thinking, problem-solving, and math and science skills. Would-be Lego engineers will construct a variety of items from robots to race cars to trucks plus many more. This camp is open to participants ages 8 - 12.
Lego Mania is directed at kids ages 5-7. While creating things like dinosaurs, planes, and rockets, campers will work on using their imaginations and problem-solving skills with plenty of hands-on activities. Along the way, they will build on or reinforce personal creativity, following directions, hand-eye coordination, and other skills. Campers will work with Lego kits and activities not available in any store. This camp is open to participants ages 5 - 7.

Camp Barbie/Fashion Designer Camp
Camp Barbie, also offers great opportunities for fun and learning. Barbie fans will love this camp! While playing with Barbie and making new friends, campers will learn or reinforce concepts including practicing good manners, dreaming of careers, the importance of school work, how to handle money, cooking tips, art and so much more. This camp is open to participants ages 5 - 8.
Fashion Designer Camp is geared towards fashion-forward young people. Would-be fashion designers will graduate from playing dress-up to actually creating and modeling their own fashions. Campers will be grouped into design teams to create fashions for the 'grand modeling show' on the last camp day. Along the way, participants will learn design basics including color theory, pattern and texture coodination and other ideas. No sewing is required for this camp. This camp is open to participants ages 8 - 12.

Adventures in Movie-Making/
Discovering Video Game Design
Geared towards kids in grades K-2, Adventures in Movie-Making, offers wonderful opportunities for future movie directors to be totally creative. Camp participants will sing songs, tell stories and learn how to use a digital camera. These skills will come in handy to actually creating a movie. Would-be directors will learn how to storyboard (drawing pictures to illustrate the sequence of creating the movie) and film their movie. The movie will be downloaded to a computer where special effects will be added. This camp will have a maximum enrollment of 16 students. This camp is open to participants ages 5 - 8.
Discovering Video Game Design is programmed for loads of fun for gamers! Have your kids ever fantasized about creating their own video games? This is their chance to do just that! Of course, only so much can be accomplished in just four days. Participants will design and create a two-dimensional arcade-style video game. Campers will design the action, create characters, and define and edit the objectives and outcomes of their games. Parents, this might open a whole new world of ideas and opportunities for your kids. This camp will have a maximum enrollment of 10 students. This camp is open to participants ages 8 - 13.
